Eco-Gite, St Jean le Thomas.

For all year round ECO-coastal holidays just over the Channel

Sympathetic eco-renovation of an old bar/shop in St Jean le Thomas.

The town house property offers accommodation for up to 13 people in 5 bedrooms.                      (A family loft with 1 double and 2 singles, 1 bunk room with an additional single and another without, 2 double rooms, one of which is at ground floor level)

There are 2 bathrooms both with w/c, sink, shower and one with a bath. (one of which is on ground floor level)

There is a large downstairs living/dinning area with kitchen and separate old bar space for watching the world go by.

Heating

A wood-burner with a back boiler connected via an accumulator tank heats the re-claimed radiators and also provides a secondary heat source to the solar water heating system.

Garden

The ‘permaculture’ inspired vegetable and herb garden has a covered area for sitting and there is a bar-b-cue area.

Neighbourhood

Within a few hundred meters there is a beach, play area in a small park, a football field and open public space, a larger playground on the dunes, general store, baker, butcher, post office, hotel with bar restaurant, hairdresser, tourist info (with seasonal bicycle hire), coastal cliff and country paths, horse riding, camping, two beach bar/cafes and a restaurant

In July and August there is a village sunday morning market, followed by the free weekly opening of an art exhibition with courtesy music and glass of wine.

The visitor centre and main point of depart for guided walks across ‘the bay’ (world heritage site) to Mont St Michel is only 4 km down the beach or road. Micro light flights and many other activities are available within the area.

For more information on St Jean le Thomas and the surrounding area, there is a very good website that you can visit:stjeanlethomas.com

Eco-credentials

This a serious attempt at applying what I learnt on an MSc program in Environmental Architecture a few years ago. I am currently working on some web pages that show the many environmental issues/approaches explored in the creation of this project. Click on 'Reflections on' (above) to read all about it.
